Ragweed Allergy – Seeking Brief Report
Remember, the previous season, you went to the park for a morning jog; and while sitting down to deep breathe, you inhaled something that made you sneeze and cough, with a runny nose, for a couple of days or more. This was nothing but pollens. Pollens come from flowers and weeds; they are left in the air by the plants and this is how they come in contact with our nasal tract and the respiratory system. Ragweed is also one of the pollen producing plants. When these pollens come in contact with a human body, as in the person inhales the pollens from ragweed, the body responds with allergic reaction. This is known as ragweed allergy. Ragweed pollens can cause allergy during warm seasons like July to October, because they cannot thrive in any other kind of climate. Hence, ragweed allergy is seasonal.
Symptoms of ragweed allergy
Since, ragweed allergy
is seasonal, as explained; the symptoms pertaining to it would also be somewhat common to those of other seasonal allergies. They go as follows:
- Ragweed allergy, foremost, causes common but severe symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, asthma- like symptoms, wheezing, nasal and respiratory congestion.
- Later come some skin rashes, redness, itchiness, burning and so on.
- Thirdly, abdominal pain accompanied by discomfort. Changes in bowel discharge are also seen.
- Signs like sore throat, inflammation, itching, nasal running and stuffing, watering and burning of the eyes, and puffy eyes and face are persistent throughout the allergy duration.
- These may not be purely considered as symptoms but they are associated to ragweed allergy, as in they can be a cause for ragweed and show up as signs or the allergy may give rise to such effects.
Evasion from ragweed allergy
The best way to dodge away from any kind of allergy is to prevent it from occurring in the first place. But since, ragweed allergy is an allergy caused by the uncontrollable environmental allergens; there need to be found out other ways t sort the allergy out. Do not plat ragweed at home or in personal garden. Root out if it already exists and is causing trouble to any one in the family or neighborhood. Use high- efficiency air filters that are particulate. Also, air conditioners, air purifiers and vacuum cleaners need to be particulate and dust absorbing. Have a check on the local pollen forecasts during particular seasonal allergy epidemics. If not necessary, do not step out during the ragweed allergy season, keeping the doors and windows shut or netted. Make sure to have a shower for body and hair after coming back home and before sleeping.
Relief for the allergic attacks
The happened cannot be reverted. Allergic reactions have occurred. Now what one needs is relief from the severity of the reactions.
One common way is to use anti- histamines. These are the most effective drugs for relieving any kind of allergic reaction and symptom. For symptoms troubling the eyes, there are anti-histamine or other medicinal eye drops. For body and skin inflammation, oral pills and skin soothing creams are available that contain anti- histamines. Nasal sprays are a good option for symptoms bothering the nasal tracts – like runny nose, stuffy nose, and nasal congestion. Other decongestants are also available for battling against the ragweed allergies. One rule needs to be followed with allergy relieving medications; whatever medication you use, do it with the slightest occurrence of any symptom.
